Gallery of the history of radiological diagnostics

The world’s first virtual Gallery of the History of Medical Radiology opened in October 2025 at Saint Petersburg State University (SPb SU). The multimedia resource is dedicated to the development of radiology in Russia and covers all areas of radiological imaging from the moment X rays were discovered to the present day. The virtual Gallery of the History of Medical Radiology is based on the concept of preserving historical materials, photographs, and the recollections of doctors, scientists, and staff of radiological diagnostic departments. The digital platform features the archival documents, the first X ray images, historical photographs, and materials that reveal the contribution of Russian scientists to the development of Radiology and modern Diagnostic Imaging. The authors of the Gallery have carried out painstaking work by scanning historical materials, collected and preserved by teachers; many documents are being published for the first time. The Gallery’s important tasks are to make the documents accessible to a wide audience, to systematize the materials, and to preserve historical facts. Saint Petersburg State University and the Saint Petersburg Radiological Society (SPRO) invite you to collaborate on creating content and posting materials on the pages of the “Medical Radiology Gallery” website.
