THE APPLICATION OF CROSSWORDS IN THE TRAINING OF RESIDENTS IN MEDICAL RADIOLOGY

In the educational process of the Scientific-Clinical and Educational Center “Medical Radiology and Nuclear Medicine” of St. Petersburg State University, the classical crosswords are used in the training of residents. Studying new educational material, residents learn various semantic concepts: terms, definitions, names, designations, etc. The training will be successful only if the terminological, conceptual material is firmly learned. Crosswords can be successfully used for the purpose of memorizing, repeating, and testing the knowledge. The article summarizes the experience of crosswords application in the training of residents in the specialty “Medical Radiology”, and provides instructions for residents on the compilation the crosswords, provides the examples of crosswords in the educational process. The application of crosswords in the preparation of residents in the specialty “Medical Radiology” introduces a game element into the educational process, additionally motivates the students, train their memory, the ability to navigate quickly the acquired information. For residents who have chosen a huge and constantly improving Radiology diagnostics as their profession, it is especially important to receive the motivation to continue their studies. Analyzing the experience gained at the application of crosswords in the organization of the educational process could be stated affirmatively that the crossword is a powerful didactic tool for the teacher, which causes additional interest in the cognitive process, and opens up new approaches to teach the residents.
