Fetal echocardiography. Doppler in TTTS twins before / after laser coagulation

Cardiac function in monochorionic twins complicated by twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is an important issue in understanding the changes expected after laser coagulation (LC). Some studies indicate that in the long term, after laser coagulation LC, a cardiac function in most cases is restored. Others report have shown that despite successful LC, the recipient did not regress pulmonary stenosis and required postnatal cardiological monitoring and treatment. According to the literature, in 20% of cases of TTTS in the recipient, a congenital+ acquired heart defect is determined (right ventricle outflow tract obstruction, atresia, PV stenosis, and TV). LC in severe stages of TTTS can resolve the disease, but is not always effective with acquired CHD (right ventricle outflow tract obstruction, atresia, stenosis of the PV, TV). LC should be performed before a deterioration in cardiac function occurs.
